Without Love

Dear reader

Today's poem flowed quite naturally for me and this is a source of great relief. A friend told me that I am harder on myself than I need to be, so I really took that to heart, meaning that I am trying to relax as I write.

As I wrote this poem, I just let the words flow. I don't believe it is my best work, but I am happy with it. Our prompt for #NaPoWriMo today was to write a palinode. What is a palinode, you ask? Well, in a palinode the author will refute or retract a statement or opinion that he or she wrote in a previous poem. With that in mind, I re-read my poem from yesterday and decided that my final statements about money were wrong. That decision led to the birth of today's poem. Please enjoy.

I used to think
that money is power
yet upon further reflection
my perception was wrong.

An illusion!
power is fantasy,
money is
a fool’s paradise.

I will accept
that we need  money
to live.

I can reason out
that some hold
more sway
than others.

But…

it’s all smoke and mirrors.

For love is
the ultimate wielder
of power.

Love gives us
true strength.
Without love
we have nothing.

  1. I really like this. I too believe love is far superior to money!
