My Legacy

Welcome to day 15 of #NaPoWriMo2015, dear reader. I have been fighting a cold for almost a week now, and it is draining me of all creativity. I struggled to write today (that seems to be a recurring theme this month), but I managed to get a piece written. Did I follow the prompt? I will let you be the judge. Today we had to write a poem about itself, or some aspect of itself. I took the term 'some aspect' and translated it very loosely. And that, dear reader, is the beauty of poetic licence. Please enjoy today's offering.

The weight of the world
is on my shoulders,
knowing that these words
are my poetic legacy.

But what is it
that I hope to
create?

Of what consequence
is this effort to write
my muse?

Will this message I pen
spread my desire
to educate,
to enlighten?

Let these observations
bear witness to
my truths…

My poem flows freely,
borne from thoughts
that exist
in my mind,
a mix of certainty
and doubt.

Rarely do my words
appear
in a certain order.

A demand to be written
results in
the poems I create.

My legacy will live on,
for my words will never
disappear.
